art and poetry that resonates

The fairy stories of Hans Christian Andersen are simply told and spiritually profound... "Just living is not enough ... one must have sunshine, freedom , and a little flower."

Spiders are solitary creatures. The females tend to be aggressive, killing the smaller, weaker males after sex. I'm strictly an amateur entomologist, but in my imagination this tiny unidentified spider is protectively, patiently, kindly, lovingly touching her egg sac with one of her 8 legs. Nature is not "red in tooth and claw" all the time.
Some things are better expressed in poetry and
pictures than with everyday words.
Sue,
ReplyDeleteVery nice post. I remember as a child I loved reading fairy tales. I also recall that the illustrations in the books were always full of color, flowers, birds, insects, and animals. I don't know what children's books look like today, but I hope they are still filled with the same kind of artistic beauty.

The good ones are still filled with artistic beauty. I think they are worth reading even as an adult.
DeleteI very like the illustration and words about sitting by a stream to listen. Dead right.
ReplyDeleteand there's not a mobile phone in sight!
DeleteYour last sentiment is so graceful and true. Sometimes the thoughts of these talented writers take my breath away. They help to make sense of the world.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Beth - it's all about creating meaning, I think.

ReplyDeleteWonderful and unusual artist - he has other works also worth checking out.
DeleteThe artworks of Christopher Marley are amazing. But your photograph of that little spider also looks like a beautiful painting.
