creating and filling spaces

There used to be a cubby in the garden.
Jan 2009
When it became unsafe it was dismantled.
Feb. 2009
That left a gap.
Feb. 2009
You could see the fence.
May 2009
So I started planting to soften it and cover the fence asap.

You can still see the fence.

The picture is getting better, softer...

  1. The plantings have come a long way and this corner is looking quite lovely. I love the pathway into the spot where the seat sits under the tree, and the Eucalypt pauciflora looks fantastic.

  2. I like the record keeping. That's good to see. I'm trying to do the same thing with an ugly fence that lines our property. It's going slow, but it's happening. Thank you for sharing.

  3. It looks beautiful. Do you write down your plans and plant accordingly? It's raining tonight in Texas - life is good.

  4. Catmint, it's so great to have all the photos to see how the area has developed. I started taking monthly photos years ago of all the garden areas, but then I stopped, and I've been kicking myself about it this year, so I've started again. One thing I've noticed is that I seem to have photos from October, December and January for almost every year, but few other months. This tells me when my gardens look at their best, but its not helpful for charting progress.

  5. What a difference a couple of years makes, new planting always takes time to blend in with its neighbours either side, your new area is looking really good and your seat looks very tempting-do you make time to sit in it? mIts good to keep records so that you can see how things were and see what an improvement you have made.My "before" photos here just show grass everywhere, the previous people didn't do any planting!!

  6. It is so satisfying and rewarding to see how 2 years can turn a tree from One Day to Now I am a Tree! One day you see fence/wall/washing/window the next the answer to a gardener's prayer ;~)

  7. You've come a long way, Catmint. Very gratifying. I love your snow gum and look forward to seeing more of it as it grows.

  8. That gum tree grew very fast in only 18 months! It looks like a nice soft tree to soften the fence.

  9. thanks bernie.

Dear Rohrerbot, that's why I started the blog, as an incentive to keep records. Good luck with your fence covering project.

Dear CJ, no I never do grand plans, usually just make small changes and it just evolves. Enjoy the rain.

Dear Lyn, it's most interesting to photograph the dreary bits of the garden, then you can see how much has changed.

Dear Pauline, the seat is tempting, and I do sit in it sometimes and listen to the birds, trying to meditate.

    Thanks Tatyana.

dear Diana, yes - satisfying and rewarding, in between frustration and more frustration!

Hi Faisal, I'm sure that gum tree will find its way onto the blog quite regularly.

Hi Tina, it did grow fast. The label said slow growing, but it has rained so much this last year, that must have helped a lot.

    cheers, catmint

  10. The way that area has evolved is truly luscious. I love the pathway and little sitting area. And the amount of growth you've seen in such a short amount of time is wonderful. In another year, you will have to move away the foliage to see the fence!
