hearing the garden at dusk

It had been a hot day in early summer. The cicadas agreed with the Bureau of Meteorology that the high temperatures would continue tomorrow.

  1. Following your other 'listening' post when it was raining I blogged about 'Buzzing Crabapples". Did you see it?

I love to sit out the back by the creek and close my eyes and listen to all the environmental noises I can hear. It is so peaceful and relaxing!.

  2. Such a familiar din! Up here the Cicadas sing all day and into the early evening. It can be quite deafening ... I often retreat indoors and turn on the air-con just for a break.

  3. I love these sounds Catmint . . . there was some sound or call of a bird maybe in the distance. The garden seems mysterious with the dark forms and muted dusk blue sky. It is wonderful to have the sounds of the garden. A dimension lost in this medium . . . well, unless one is clever like you! I must do this in the spring. ;>)

  4. It's a little quieter in my garden at dusk right now - fewer insects, yes, but the main soundtrack for my dusk garden in summer is neighborhood kids (including my own) making their playing noises. Us moms are all just glad they're outside with those loud calls instead of in . . . I'm sure you're glad the cicadas are outside instead of in, too.

Just going into a deep freeze here. The video was so evocative.

  7. pretty sounds. I can't say I'm too fond of cicadas though... Several years ago we had Brood-X come through (I think that's once every 17 years or something). It was deafening. Like it would drive you mad. I think there are some youtube videos where you can hear them.
