blackbirds, bye bye ...

This morning the chicks left the nest. The day started out just like every other day over the past three weeks. Mother brought breakfast.

A bit later I noticed some young fluffy blackbirds in the garden, looking uneasy and not relaxed. But maybe I was just projecting ...

Three blackbirds left the nest, leaving only one.

Soon that one left too.

Now I'm an empty nester.

  1. But what lovely memories and you have helped them grow and be able to leave.

  2. It always amazes me how quickly baby birds grow up and leave the nest. My oldest has left our nest, but there are 4 more right here, leaving my nest rather full.

  3. I bet becoming this type of empty-nester was a less difficult adjustment than when your last kid left home (it sounds like they have all left, from what I've gathered). Fluffy, cute birds.

  4. What a great post and lovely shots. Makes me hanker for spring already and we are not quite in winter.

  5. I love this ... do black birds tend to nest in the same spot each year like robins? Do you think she'll be back?

  6. I always feel a little pang of sadness when the baby birds leave the nest. But how cool that you got to watch the whole process!
