about this blog

I started this blog in 2008. It started mainly as a way of tracking the evolution of my dry garden, and that led to an interest in photography and in the creatures that live in the garden. It's still about the garden and wildlife, but now my passion is thinking about how we humans can learn to co-exist with wild animals and plants, especially in urban areas.

Help for a bushfire survivor

Countless birds and animals have also suffered in the tragic bushfire disaster. I love this photo so much. To me it shows that we can live in harmony and respectfully with our non human neighbours.

  1. This photograph speaks volumes--the tenderness in the midst of tragedy. God bless that firefighter.

  2. Second post...sorry.

I didn't realize that you live in Australia. My heart goes out to you and your country. Please know that many of us here in the USA are thinking of you and praying. You're not alone.

  3. Catmint, I love this picture too. I know how shy Koalas are in the wild and this one knows that it is getting help. I feel also helpless and sad for all the animals who have perished in these fires.

  4. The way they are holding hands is beautiful...I agree, we can live in harmony...I just wish more two leggers cared.

  5. The picture brings tears to my eyes
