Here, like Spokane, at least there is variety. There is also variety in my attitude, sometimes I look at what survives and even thrives, other times I focus on the glass half empty.
cheers, catmintSue Catminthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14242341696447975933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-174929999542605112.post-21897002171585431532009-02-07T07:25:00.000+11:002009-02-07T07:25:00.000+11:00Hi shady gardener, good to meet you, I plan to vi...Hi shady gardener, good to meet you, I plan to visit your blog as soon as I reply to these comments. Yes, I too am fascinated by the similarities between extreme heat and extreme cold. Your pictures were so sad. I hope you have some survivors. I suppose that I should stop complaining about the snow that replenishes our local aquifer and keeps our faucets running. I have experienced a few extremes. We had so much rain that we had to lift the fruit trees because they wera drowning. After that the drought hit us and the fruit trees suffered again it was a no win situation. I hope that you can save some of your plants and that the heat breaks with some good rain.Lavender and Vanilla Friends of the Gardenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05403418150146893599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-174929999542605112.post-73074434732502177282009-01-30T08:05:00.000+11:002009-01-30T08:05:00.000+11:00Hi Darla, thank you for your concern about me. Actually I don't know what to do. I think light pruning would help relieve the pressure plants are under, but on the other hand the dead bits shade the live bits - a bit!Sue Catminthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14242341696447975933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-174929999542605112.post-87755706985418874472009-01-30T07:54:00.000+11:002009-01-30T07:54:00.000+11:00Hi Tina, yes, there are all kinds of mother nature...Hi Tina, yes, there are all kinds of mother nature, and this mother is behaving in a distinctly non nurturing way. There he meets an Aussie farmer and gets talking. The Aussie shows off his big wheat field and the Texan says, "Oh! We have wheat fields that are at least twice as large".

Then they walk around the ranch a little, and the Aussie shows off his herd of cattle. The Texan immediately says, " We have longhorns that are at least twice as large as your cows".

The conversation has, meanwhile, almost died when the Texan sees a herd of kangaroos hopping through the field. He asked, "And what are those"?

The Aussie replies with an incredulous look, "Don't you have any grasshoppers in Texas"?Hermeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00968366076064269729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-174929999542605112.post-66082951884381171062009-01-29T22:25:00.000+11:002009-01-29T22:25:00.000+11:00Hi Catmint, that is so sad! As for the garden, here in the southeast USA the drought is at an extreme level for the last two years. Garden plants that have done well have perished and we are now considering xeric plants only to be added. The small leaves and gray, like th lavender and santolina do seem more drought tolerant. About that heat though, too much!
FrancesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-174929999542605112.post-10712400478062959252009-01-29T20:27:00.000+11:002009-01-29T20:27:00.000+11:00all of ur photos are nice. i like ur blog so much....all of ur photos are nice. i like ur blog so much. i am Rudy from Indonesia, a country in South East Asia.
